hey folks. I don't know if this inbuilt Korean player will work for you, I hope it does though.

I've got three little viddies for you to experience Korean culture with. The first stars Lee Hyo Ri, one of Korea's pop superstars. It's an add for soju, a Korean booze that closely resembles paint thinner. Honestly, I've never been as fucked up as when drinking this swill. FYI, you have to shake the bottle before opening it as a slightly poisonous residue floats to the top of a still bottle....

http://www.mongdori.com/forums/read.php?2,986

Following this shameful sexed up add for booze consumption, here's one of the most fucked up national anti-drinking ad's I've ever seen. Don't worry about the language, just enjoy. First time I watched it, I had no sound, and almost died laughing.

http://www.mongdori.com/forums/read.php?2,1027

and finally, another shamefully sexed up ad for the new fibre beer, the beer with fibre. yes. Fibre.

http://www.mongdori.com/forums/read.php?2,1030

it's the booze of choice for all the slimmies.....

just when I think I've had enough and need to get out of here for good, they keep pulling me back in......

Worlds largest IT fair opened today in Vegas. Would love to hit that up if I was there. Was checking the news tonight, and saw this article in the Korea Herald,

http://www.koreaherald.com/ in the tech section. Unfortunately I can't give you a link. Their website has been under attack for months from Chinese hackers. Some kind of nationalist opinion scrum or some such...

anyways, I'll copy the nifty bits about the full colour E paper which caught my eye.....

"LG Philips LCD Co., the world's second-largest liquid-crystal display firm, said yesterday that it has developed a flexible color e-paper display that provides the world's highest level of image quality.

The 14.3-inch flexible-color display is nearly the equivalent size of an A4 size paper, and boasts a resolution of 1280 by 800 pixels, which is four times higher than existing displays. It can produce 16.7 million different colors."

and

""The (latest A4-size color e-paper) represents a significant improvement over its predecessors, with a never-seen-before resolution, making it perfect for use in high-end multimedia applications" such as electronic textbooks and smart ID cards, the company said in an e-mailed statement.

Only 300 micrometers thin, the display is bendable yet durable and is very energy-efficient, using power only when the image changes. It retains images on the screen even after it has been turned off, the company explained."

and

"

In October 2005, the Korean display maker unveiled the world's first 10.1-inch flexible e-paper display. The company followed that up with its groundbreaking 14.1-inch model in May 2006.

Experts say that flexible electronic displays may one day bring significant changes to our everyday lives, making possible a new generation of gadgets such as portable TVs that can be carried in your pocket, and rolled out anytime."

full colour e paper. I can think of so many naughty applications it's making my eyes sweat.....

came across this the other day, pretty damn cool.

for more go here, a little tough to navigate as it appears to be in Japanese:

http://take-g.com/crafts/big.html

also this site was featured on the MSN site of the day, producing and selling short run t shirts. anyone can submit designs, which are voted on and some are then selected for production, some cool stuff and pretty cheap. Mr. Lamont should consider submitting some sort of T-shirt worthy image, possibly with a snappy slogan. I may try it out to, just for kicks.

Friggin' AWESOME!!!!! Nite Owl, the Comedian, and Rorshach look just as I remember them. But no Dr. Manhattan pics! The website (http://rss.warnerbros.com/watchmen) has a cool pic of the scene in which Rorshach torches the dude with his lighter. Could be a goody. But translation from book ('specially comic book) to film is notoriously difficult. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now...

With all these monkeys jumpin' around, I thought it suitable to post a link to a great CBC Fifth Estate doc on cruelty to animals in Hollywood. Know those lemmings in the Disney movie that 'lept' to their deaths - tossed from turntable. And those monkeys seem to be at the brunt of most of it. Watch the whole doc at the CBC: http://www.cbc.ca/fifth/cruelcamera/video.html

Well, PNS warned us about this some time ago.

Take a good long look through this series of 60 minutes videos on yahoo. Then think about what the term, "Active Denial", really means, and all the different ways it could be used. (in front of buildings, on protesters, chasing street people away from bay street in toronto, replacing fences, animal control, high school student herding, crowd control, cooking hotdogs).

http://60minutes.yahoo.com/segment/145/the_ray_gun?comment_offset=1211

Notice that the kindly police officer speculates on the wonderful uses a hand sized model of this device. Gee, this will NEVER EVER be misused. (although I'm sure many officers will be thankful that they will never have to use the phone book and flashlight routine)

then take a look at this, and think twice about being any kind of protester or political street activist in the United States.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LYeGHI5SpU&feature=related

I love the intro to these, "real taser stories" on the youtube. It's so techno action packed that you can't help but want to get in on the action of bringing down a "dangerous", partially clothed large man on drugs with 10,000 volts of electricity.

The facts in the first link, coupled with the attitude subtly expressed in the second, give me great concerns for the future of civil liberties in North America.

Opinions?

Personally, I'm a little scared.

earlier in this thread I posted a link to an online retailer called Threadless that sells limited edition t-shirts. I ordered 2 shirts from them back in January and they were shipped on the 28th with a delivery window of 1-3 weeks. as of today, now 6 weeks since the order was shipped, I have not received my goods. I have contacted the customer service department at Threadless and was told that the package does not have a tracking number so there is no way of finding out where it is, but it may be held up in customs and will probabaly show up soon. now I'm not suggesting that they deliberately ripped me off and it is likely that there was some issue in the actual shipping process, but the lack of assistance has put me off. I certainly won't be ordering from them again, and who knows one day the shirts just might turn up at the door. I sent them an email today and, unless they come up with a plan, it will likely be my last.

well don't I feel like the F@#%&ing idiot! got a reply from the people at Threadless this afternoon who were happy to declare my package lost and offered to replace it with t shirts of my choice. in the email they asked me to confirm my mailing address and guess what... wrong address. yes that's right, instead of #95 I put in #85! so I have just finished sending them a very sheepish and somewhat apologetic note and hopefully they do not arrange to have me kicked out of the internet forever.

with a printout of the picture, I can probably get those tailored for us. If there's a pattern out there, definitely.

I'd want some kind of crazy, hard rock based motif for my ascot. Maybe a collage of megadeth album covers.....

it takes my tailor about five days to make something he does in store. A new pattern, maybe seven or more.

Probably cost about three hundred for pants, jacket and shirt.

I don't know if any of you other interbong technicians have chanced upon the Craigslist "Best of", but there's some funny sh*it on there...like so:

To the Crazy-bat-fecal matter-lady who picked up the free fridge

Date: 2007-11-30, 10:06PM EST

Dear Crazy-As-Bat-Sh*t-Lady:

I am honored that you chose my ad for a mini fridge out of all the ads you could have chosen. It makes me feel good that my mini fridge will be supplying you with the ice cold beverages you've obviously become accustomed to.

Next time you answer one of my ads, please note the following:

1. I am not Home Depot. If you travel thirty minutes to pick up a bulky 40-pound object, please come prepared with the necessary items you'll need to secure it to your vehicle. Yes, I have rope. I have a lot of rope. I have many different colors and sizes of rope. No, you can not have my rope. The ad said I was giving away a fridge, not a fridge with rope. Nor was I offering a fridge with padding so that the pleather seats on your piece of crap 89 ford pinto with no hub caps car don't get marked up.

2. What part of ' must pick up' in the ad was confusing to you? Yes, I have a vehicle. No, I don't want to haul your fridge all the way to East BumbleFuck on the coldest day of the year. No, I'm really really sure I don't want to do that. No, really. I'm sure.

3. Please call me only once with ALL your questions. I left for the day, and had 5 messages on my answering machine, the last one was at 11:30 pm. Frankly lady, you were sounding a bit too crazy by the end of the day. It's a fridge. A small metal box that keeps sh*it cold. I don't have the fridge's family tree. For all I know the fridge's was conceived by a slutty young Maytag that graced some hillbilly's side porch. I don't know the exact age of the fridge. I bought it a few years ago, I used it for a couple of months, ok, I lied, I used it a whole year. The fact is, you're not buying a race horse, you're buying a used fridge.

4. No, I will not throw in a couple bucks of gas money to pick it up because your anal retentive eyes picked up the ittiest, bittiest hairline scratch with a microscope so it wasnt completly described. I'm not making judgements on you, but I'm pretty damn sure Donald Trump didn't send you across the state to pick up a used fridge for Trump Towers. Though I'd wager the whole concept of the mini-fridge bar is a familar one to you.

5. Yes, you can unplug a fridge without any harm to the fridge. Believe me, the fridge is fine. The manufacturers have figured out a way to extend the life of a fridge that has been unplugged. Yes, I'm absolutely sure of that. No, you did not have to leave 2 messages about your concerns with the fridge being unplugged, and frankly it was a little embarrassing having the same conversation with you in my driveway where my neighbors could hear.

6. No, I don't have the operating instructions. I can write them down for you though: Plug fridge in. Open door. Put crap inside. Take crap out when it's cold. Eat or drink crap.

7. I am not a fridge pimp. I don't have any more fridges at that price. No i dont have one in a diffrent color to match your other appliances, No, I don't know where you can get another fridge just like this one for your friend. Yes, I know it's in great condition, and I'm sure you'd like your other crazy-as-bat-sh*it-mini-fridge-finding-friends to have one just like it, but this is all I have. Here's a thought, there's this online classified ads website. Yeah, you may have heard of it, it's called CRAIGSLIST. I dunno, maybe, just maybe, in this great land of ours, there's another mini-fridge being advertised there.

8. Please remove my phone number from your address book. I think our relationship is over. Oh, and if you've added me to your AIM Buddy List, please delete me. Please. I beg you.

Yours truly,

the guy that gave you the fridge

this was the site of the day on MSN a few days ago.

http://www.elibs.com/e/new

it is an online Mad Libs type thing, but what makes it particularly funny is that the Mad Libs appear to have been created by people with little understanding of the english language and, in many cases, Mad Libs themselves.

Yeah, this is good. One of the things I miss about living out in Wonju is, believe it or not, talking to all the GI's there. I actually miss the first group that had lived out there for years, but got fired because they didn't want to go to Iraq. Anyways, here's a little tidbit, which is too fucked up to be a falsehood. Good blog as well:

http://rokdrop.com/2008/05/14/the-porta-john-arsonist-is-wanted-in-iraq/

"I’ve run across a few ‘phantom shitters’ while associating with the military. I will never forget at one AOB we walked into a conference room reserved for a meeting with Rumsfeld in an obscure country and there was a large pile, still steaming, in the middle of the conference table..."

enjoy

followed by another entry by team Korea. Click the second one for the links, remember, it's a Korean site so please watch out for virii, Trojan Horsies, illegitimate net-touchery, and anything else that might crawl through your doorway to the winternet and roost on your Lard-drive. Personally, I found the video shocking, and am surprised that the young male perpetrator did not get ripped apart by the crowd. Wish I could hear what they said...

"Interestingly enough, a subcontracted enforcer (?), “hired by a private company under contract with the city”, was caught on video getting rough with an elderly street vendor. What happened to using the police to enforce the law? The Joongang article is here."

i have inadvertently stumbled across what may be the greatest super-hero duo known to civilized man.

details are sketchy at best for the moment, but a GIS of 'Milk and Cheese' will turn up some very interesting images.

http://images.google.ca/images?hl=en&q=milk+and+cheese&btnG=Search+Images&gbv=2

they appear to be ultra-violent dairy who run around bashing things and people and occasionally yelling "Merv Griffin" at their victims. here's a little sample:

Just got this email from Scotia Bank securities. I've copied the top half.

Since when has a Canadian bank assumed their customers "love" them? I do believe they're a little more realistic than that.....

ps, I've never banked at the scotia bank...

the ppl it hurts most (besides us lowly pirates of the intertubes) is the small musical artist that wants to get some exposure. because the songwriter wants to protect his intellectual property, they will copyright their work. but to make an unknown artist widely recognizable, they have to get the help of the free exposure that the interbong can provide (see: The Arcade Fire).

another very difficult angle will be academic writing. while it is not technically copyrighted, the universities own the work produced by their students and if any of it is ever cited or quoted (unlikely but not impossible), the quoter has broken the law.

and we know that the law is never, ever selectively applied, so all those students and all those aspiring professional musicians will be S.O.L., because their audiences will be in jail.

the very, very best part about, though, is that the DMCA (the law for which this agreement is based upon) has articles that state that cross-format sharing of content is not allowed unless buying a new license for each platform. so i buy my dvd, but if i want to watch that same flick on my ipod (or whatever), i have to buy a new copy/license for that privilege.

yes friends, it's a brave new world of litigious possibility! we should all become copyright lawyers and let the good times roll.

p.s. that ScotiaBank things was a feeble attempt at 'phishing'.

"She said there is a joke in China, comparing Koreans, Japanese and Americans. ``Koreans have a big head, but they don't have a tail. Korean business people talk big at first, but don't keep their word. Japanese have a head, a big torso, and a tail, all of them. They pay close attention to the work in progress. Hence the big torso. Americans have both the head and the tail. When they say they will do something, they do it.''"

Yeah, sometimes, humour just doesn't even come close to translating.....

Watch this crazy bastard make push-o-line fuel from grease, and gold from green strips of paper!

http://www.burkeoil.com/default.htm

then think of how many McDonalds are in the United States, and wonder why they are dependent on foreign oil.

Then ask why the hell Canada hasn't jumped all over these little technological marvels? I blame sloth. Fucking sloth. There is no practical reason why electric cars, solar cells, bio-diesel and 21st C building codes aren't making Canadians lives better.

I had a vision last night, of a giant foot kicking a national ass into high gear, and, damn, hang on, Shelley needs to use this pc.

a good cultural video posted by roboseyo, one of the more well known K-bloggers. What you see in this video has been going on here ever since I arrived, before I arrived, and will probably always go on:

http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=hCoXcM-i6Ew

It's different from how things are done back home, (ladies drink free? Free shots for women in skirts?), but the principle is the same.

Flesh sells booze, booze sells sex.

Not sure what you think of the band or the RNC (although I think you're more than likely a fan of the former and a hater of the latter), but I thought you should check this out, 'cause the guys look like they're having a ball.

That's hilarious! They're getting a good sound out of those megaphones. Wouldn't be a bad idea to include into their act....

In other news, Kim Jong Il may be dying.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/10/world/asia/10korea.html

which would mean that the second leg of the axis of evil is going to fall, after seven long years in the war on terror......

Allrighty, I gots three for y'all today. First, however, beware of any of the McCain Palin photoshop sex pic competitions. They are bloody gross.

First up:>

A lovely flow chart on how Sarah Palin handled debate pics:

http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/10/3/43222/8057/718/618653

quite humorous

Next:> a lovely website for watching polling of American politics. Yay~!

http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/

Three: I've got a lovely transcript of the VP debates, and right at the beginning, this Happens:

PALIN: Nice to meet you.

BIDEN: It's a pleasure.

PALIN: Hey, can I call you Joe?

BIDEN: (OFF-MIKE)

PALIN: Thank you.

If this transcript reads like I think it does, and I have to watch it to find out, then off mike, Joe Biden told her to !#$%$@@$%^#^%&^ you !@$%@$#^$^ hockey mom because after this @!$#%@$#% debate you will be !$%$@#%@$#. Oh yeah, oh yeah.

and then Palin says, "thank you", because the mike's are back on. I must watch a video of this, to try and read Biden's lips, to find out what he said to psych her out.

http://elections.nytimes.com/2008/president/debates/transcripts/vice-presidential-debate.html

oh yeah, here's a really neat article on China from the economist

http://www.economist.com/books/displayStory.cfm?source=hptextfeature&story_id=12333103

The NDP, pro internet, pro piracy!

I must say, I'm intrigued, and even a little seduced by his ideas, and his mustache.

Could this be where my future lies?????

I've usually regarded these folks as commies......but that's just my upbringing...hmmm, choices....

This one gets a Capital F for F#@k yeah!

Love the dudes on guitar. For some reason, I'm reminded of Mr. Beers and Karmikhail, if thirty years in our future they travel back in time to the '70s and start a Christian Ska-funk band with a group of spaced out ex-hippies in order to save the universe.

Enjoy! I saw this first thing in the morning.
